π§ Overview of Alder New York π§
Welcome back to Mind Over Mango and thank you for stopping by! Today I’m sharing my latest skincare experiences on a new company I recently discovered, Alder New York. Today we will be focusing on two products in particular from this company: their Everyday Face Cleanser and their Clarifying Face Mask.
Clean, vegan, and holistic, Alder New York is a genderless beauty company. Their claim to fame is that their products can be used by anyone – it doesn’t matter what gender you identify with. They are also a cruelty-free company as well. Their products are formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances, silicone, and a bunch of other junk that other beauty products are secretly loaded with.

π¦ Everyday Face Cleanser π¦
I found immediate use for Alder New York’s Everyday Face Cleanser, as thus I decided to test this product out first. I used this product several nights in a row before bedtime. After dampening my face, I applied a single pump of product and worked it into my skin in circular motions. One thing you need to remember is to dampen your face before application. The consistency starts very gel-like and turns into a light foam as you apply it.
I have frequent breakouts. I also have hyperpigmentation issues, and the skin on my face gets blotchy, especially at night. So for me, it is 100% necessary that any skincare product I use addresses these issues. After rinsing this product off, I noticed that my acne was less inflamed and skin was actually significantly less red than it was just a minute or two before. The formula is pH balanced with a low dose of glycolic acid, which I believe to be the biggest reason for this outcome.
β Who this is for β
First of all, this product is for any gender. Just because I’m a female doesn’t mean it’s a “girly” face cleanser. Alder New York stresses that their products are truly meant for anyone who wants to try them. Second, If you are seeking skincare that that will address issues such as inflammation, you very well might enjoy using this product. You also don’t need to have skincare issues though to use this – it’s a great all-around cleanser that does the job. It’s also lightweight and there is no real scent. If you hate products with added fragrance, this would be a great choice for you.
β Who this is not for β
If you don’t like gel-like consistencies or any foaminess in your cleansers, then this may not be your cup of tea. Alder New York states this it is a very low foam product, which I don’t deny, however, mine did get pretty foamy. Would it still be considered low foam? Probably. For me, it was a perfect balance. However, if you’re not into that for whatever reason, then this may not be the right choice for you.
The price point may also be a snag in your sweater. At $28 USD, it is a decent cost for a product. That being said, it is 8 fl oz. At one or two pumps a night, this product is bound to set you up for many more months in the future. Even though you very well could save money in the end, the initial cost may catch some people off guard, which is understandable if you’re on a tighter budget.
πββοΈ Clarifying Face Mask πββοΈ
Confession: I have never used a mud mask before, which meant I was excited to try the Clarifying Face Mask! I used a flat makeup foundation brush to smooth the product all over my face in even strokes. I wouldn’t recommend using your hands because it is mud (and charcoal), so it will get messy. The consistency is very smooth and I had no issues with chunkiness.
The photos seen here were my first application of it. I had it on longer than the recommended time (because I was taking photos of course) so I didn’t get the full effects of it on my first go. My skin got a little dry, which is 100% expected given I passed the 3 – 5-minute mark. My acne was less inflamed though, which I was really surprised about. I expected it would actually flair it up even more because I had it on too long but this wasn’t the case. I wanted to give this product a fair shot though so I did the mask one more time to see how it would work. After rinsing in cool water, my skin felt soft and radiant. My pores were smaller and my skin was tighter without being too tight.
β Who this is for β
This product is definitely for any mask junkie who loves a good skincare facial. If you have issues with large pores or blackheads, this would be a great option for you to try out. I noticed that it actually began pushing out those impurities on my face after just the first application. It’s also a smooth consistency that doesn’t go on too thick. If you like thin layers, this so for you.
β Who this is not for β
Speaking of thin layers, if you like to have thicker masks, this mask won’t exactly give you what you are looking for. It’s not buildable, though it doesn’t really need to be. Still, I get the obsession with a pure black mud mask, so with that in mind, you may choose to bypass this one. If you prefer peel-off masks, know that this is meant as a wash-off. It can also stick to your skin a bit but I didn’t have any issues with either. The price point is again a concern that some will encounter. A single packet comes in at $6 USD. It states it’s for single-use, however, I have already had two uses out of it with still some product left to go.
π©ββοΈ The Verdict π©ββοΈ
Alder New York has created very low-risk products. There are only a couple of things I can pull from that I may see that other consumers will not favor so much (because let’s face it, there’s literally no product in existence that’s 100% perfect for every single person). I really love that they strongly advocate genderless beauty products. It pushes the envelope on what society has created in terms of “beauty standards”, and it’s refreshing that we are seeing companies such as Alder New York popping up and taking a stand.I genuinely recommend this company and I’m pleased with my experiences using Alder New York’s products. Their customer service is also great – I was sent a little personalized note that was hand-signed by Co-Founder Nina Zilka, which showed me that they really cared about my opinion and wanted to give me the best experience they could upon opening my package. Also, the packaging was very cute and well put together, which is always a plus! You can purchase their products directly from their website or on my Amazon storefront.

May 1, 2019One of the things that I like is that they kept their packaging very minimal, which appeals to all people! It sounds like the cleanser is one I would really like – and I don’t find $28 to be all that crazy, if it does an excellent job with my acne and hyperpigmentation (yay we can be buddies haha). Thank you for sharing this detailed review of the brand!
Mind Over Mango
May 3, 2019Yes, I love the minimalism of it! I think that in itself is very on-trend right now. I also think it’s hard to go wrong with this cleanser though, so I bet you would! The $28 price point is fine by me too. Haha – yes, skin problem buddies! Thank you so much, Stephanie!

May 1, 2019I admit, I’ve never heard of this brand but I will for sure check it out! Clean beauty is the best beauty, I say. I also like that they call their products genderless (ban the pink tax!) That cleanser sounds perfect for me – I don’t mind a bit of foam π
Mind Over Mango
May 3, 2019Oh, the pink tax! Isn’t that so terrible? It’s like being punished for what naturally occurs with women. I’d have to look up all the pink tax products that are out there, but I’m sure that there’s a handful of “cleanliness” products with it tacked on there. Also, I think the foam is great. π I heard that some people don’t like foam though! Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Deborah!

Mind Over Mango
May 3, 2019Oh, thank you so much, Nataly! I’m really happy to hear that feedback. I really enjoyed looking at these products from all angles, even if they worked well for me I know there’s no “one size fits all” in skincare! I’m happy you found it helpful, thank you!

Mind Over Mango
May 3, 2019They are a pretty new company (at least by my standards they are). They started out in 2016, so about 3 years old. Pretty young, still!
