Book Review: LIKEtoKNOW.it: Stories from the Influencer Next Door

Like to Know it Book

Hello lovelies! Today I’m really excited to kick start my new blog series titled Bookworm. In this series you can expect me to review some of my favorite books I’ve read. It is definitely a different direction from my fashion and beauty blog posts here on Mind Over Mango, but one that I’m excited to share with you! I absolutely love reading, and in this series you will find mostly non-fiction books such as entrepreneurial, business, and leisure coffee table reads. Today I will be reviewing the newest book I’ve added to my growing library, that being the very well awaited LiketoKnow.it: Stories from the Influencer Next Door. This beautifully curated coffee table book is one that I immediately pre-ordered as soon as I found out they were publishing one! It was officially released on September 18th, 2018. Since I pre-ordered the book, it arrived on my doorstep that same day. Yay for being a bookworm!

“Stories from the Influencer Next Door goes behind the screen with over 100 of the world’s top global influencers sharing how they started their entrepreneurial businesses and achieved their path to influence. Curated by the Editors of LIKEtoKNOW.it, the book has something for everyone–the entrepreneur, the fashionista, the foodie, the stay-at-home mom, the beauty buff, the interior design guru, and so much more–encouraging readers to find their people and their influence.” – Editors of LTK.it

Jessica Wang from Not Jess Fashion is featured in the new book.

Who + What is included:

This book includes some of my favorite modern day influencer icons including Stephanie Hill (@thestylebungalow), Leonie Hanne (@ohhcouture), Jessica Wang (@notjessfashion), and Caitlin Covington (@cmcoving), among others! The book also contains five categories of influencer niches: #LTKfashion, #LTKfamily, #LTKhome, #LTKbeauty, and #LTKfit.

What I loved:

One part about this book that I really loved was that I discovered so many new influencers that I had never heard of before! Erica Hoida of @fashionedchicstyling was one of them. There were also a couple of men featured in this book, although they were few and far between, as mostly women tend to dominate the influencer industry. (Hey, no complaints! Girl power rules).

What is on each page:

Every influencer had a two page spread filled with images of them and what they do. In an interview style writing format, each blogger answered 3 to 4 different questions about them and their niche, ranging from “what were you doing before you launched your brand?” to “what is your favorite quote or mantra?”. Each spread includes the blogger’s name, social handle, where they are located, and the date that they first established themselves. It was fun reading through all of the blogger’s answers and seeing when they first began their brand.

Erica Hoida was one of the many new bloggers that I learned about.

Physical Quality + Appearance:

The book itself has a nice weight to it and is a whopping 232 pages long, as it’s packed page to page with badass bloggers from around the world. The paper and image quality are great and each page has a nice thickness to it as well. Overall, the book is beautifully crafted and definitely the “coffee table” book that it is advertised to be. The book is categorized under “Marketing” on Amazon.

Who wasn’t included:

There are a couple of influencers that I was surprised were not included in the new book, some being the most popular (and in my opinion, top notch) influencers. Left out of the pages were Tara Whiteman (@taramilktea), Jaci Marie Smith (@jacimariesmith), Julia Engel (@juliahengel) and Steffy (@steffy). I do think though that the book was a good mixture of influencers who dominated the industry, and also ones who have smaller followings, but are impactful in their niches.

Questions I have:

I’d be curious to know the curation process and how LTK.it went about their selections in choosing which influencers made the ranks, and which ones fell flat of joining the elite forces contained within the pages of the book. Easily some of the higher ranking influencers not included might not utilize the social shopping platform as much as those who were included, which may be a reason for not being selected. However, I have seen influencers in the book who do not regularly advocate to promote any real LTK.it monetization on their social accounts or blogs. Perhaps it is simply a matter of networking and connections that landed these bloggers a spot in the highly publicized book.

Also, some of the bloggers I follow were placed into categories that I would never have labeled them under. For example, Stephanie Hill of @thestylebungalow was placed under the #LTKhome section of the book. I definitely would not consider her a home or lifestyle blogger, but rather a fashion blogger. There were several others that fell into odd categories, which was a little confusing. I’m not 100% sure of the thought process behind it, but my guess is that they didn’t want to overcrowd some sections of the book and needed to level everything out. Despite my questions, it did not deter me from enjoying the book and all of its goodness.

I was happy to find a few of my favorite bloggers as I was flipping through the book!

Overall opinion:

Overall, I seriously love this new coffee table book of mine. I’m kind of a sucker for coffee table books and love to collect them for display purposes. The imagery is beautiful and the book includes a solid mix of different influencers from several industries. There are many new bloggers to learn about and follow after flipping through the pages. If you’re looking for inspiration, this is a good book for it, as it gives you a glimpse into each blogger’s life and career. If anything, it’s a beautiful piece that would look great in your home as decor or as a casual read for you or your guests.

This book isn’t one that I would sit and read front to back, but rather one I’d flip through during my spare time and read in bits and pieces, which I believe is one of intentions for the layout and the way the book has been created. I give this book a thumbs up and recommend it to anyone interested or involved in the influencer lifestyle who is a fellow bookworm as well! You can currently purchase the book on Amazon within an affordable mid $20 to $30 range.

Thank you so much for checking out the first of many blog posts in my newest Bookworm series! I can’t wait to share more of my favorite reads with you in the future.

Until next time!

xoxo Sara

Love this post Sara! I’m such a sucker for coffee table books and I was curious to know what influencers were included. I too am surprised at some of the bigger names you mentioned like Julia Engel not being included, and I’m happy to see some of my favorites like Erica Hoida in the book. Thanks for this review I definitely will be picking this book up!

Thank you Cassie!!! Oh I know, I’m the same exact way! 🙂 I love reading in general, but I also really love books that are more for display purposes or a light read here and there. I have a growing collection of coffee table books for that purpose! 📚 Also, definitely was surprised about no Julia Engel. I was really hoping for Tara Milk Tea so that was a little disappointing. Yes though, go buy the book it you’d like. For the price it’s a nice piece to have! 📖 Thanks for checking out my blog girly!

I heard they were publishing a book and I wasn’t sure if I should get it or not! I initially heard mixed reviews but I like how you were honest about certain parts. It definitely is a pretty coffee table book though!

Hey Mindy! Yes, I actually read some of the reviews after it was released and some people made a few good points as to why they didn’t really favor it. I personally like it, but I’m here mostly for its aesthetic! Anyway, check it out and read some reviews for yourself to see how you feel! Thanks as always for keeping up to date on my blog posts. 🙂
